As a Chinese, what disgusts you about the Chinese society today?

Now I have to reset my Tiktok preference to let the algorism know me again, by feeding me with sexy girls dancing, cute puppies and conspiracy theories…Lol

But from certain point in 2024, maybe Feb, things changed. I don’t know if I just triggered some keywords in the algorism of Tiktok or it is as some netizens say, a new wave of the public opinion war, Tiktok started to feed more and more geopolitically controversial contents, about Taiwan, Russia and Ukraine, Palestine and Israel, US, the communist party …even I tried to stop it by marking them as “Not Interested”, I still seeing them, I suppose it means there are just more contents being uploaded on these subjects, including:

Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem for other people to speak free, I am sure I have left lots of dumb comments as well. But it just seems to me, from certain point this year, these comments are pouring into my sight on Tiktok, like someone just turned on the tap, and they overwhelmed the fun contents that I am insterseted in.

Why do men like to suck another man’s dick?

Zelensky and Ukraine, yes, Ukraine got lots of fans in China now on Tiktok. Since I spent time on Tiktok everyday, I can clearly remember before 2024, the public attitude I used to observe on Tiktok towards Russia-Ukraine war was like, “Not our war, China stays neutral”, “Russia got reasons to fight against NATO expansion”, “NATO provoked it”….it seems to me, 20% of Chinese netizens used to support Ukraine before 2024, around 30% neutral or don’t care, 50% supported Russia or against US. Ukraine and Russia’s supporters disagreed with each other but they wouldn’t fight each other in the comments, at least I didn’t see that before 2024. From this summer, I began to see more contents and comments, supporting Ukraine, cursing not only Putin and Russia, but also netizens neutral or doesn’t support Ukraine. If you say, “I don’t care who wins”, they will call you Putin’s dog, yellow Russians…...they act like “not supporting Ukraine is a crime”. and they call Zelensky “great leader of Ukraine”, “take Ukraine to embrace civilization”. Now my personal feeling from Tiktok, 70% of Chinese netizens support Ukraine, 30% support Russia, against US or remain neutral. Again, it is just my observation based my own experience on Chinese Tiktok, and the number of comments, regardless the contents of them.

Trolls and ignorant netizens on social media.

Videos supporting Kamala Harris. They quote her speach, “My entire career, I've only had one client: The people”…I don’t know if she had said that, or what do Americans think about her speech, there are so many trolls in the comments praise her, like, “A true good leader of the American people, thumb up”, “Please bring order to the world”, “Embracce civillization, go, go, go, ”…. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve seen contents about US elections before, it is gossip to Chinese people, Chinese like or don’t like a US candidate for various reasons, but never for their political views and domestic policies, nor do we put too much interest in it. But this year at least on Tiktok, it seems abnormal to me, I’ve never seen the Chinese public presents such preference into America’s election, not this crazy. I don’t know what’s the game being played here, but I hope Harris knows she got lots of supporters over here in communist China.

Why do men think all women are the same?

Taiwan, surprise? There are netizens on Chinese Tiktok who support Taiwan, are they real people like me, I don’t know. They say Taiwan is “the civilized version of China”, “the only hope of China”, “Embrace civilization”, and comments praising ChiangKaiShek, Hu Shi, KMT, R.O.C…as Chinese, we all know what they did to China, although I never heard anyone in reality supporting KMT and Taiwan independence, but you can see fans of democratic Taiwan on Chinese Tiktok, with IP addresses from mainland China. If you believe that’s because talking bad on CCP gonna get you arrested, I can guarentee you, in China, to locate someone thru the social media is much easier than to locate a guy in the crowd. Crazy and weird, huh?

It seems there is a popular game recently on Chinese Tiktok, called frog fishing - you post a 5 sec video about frogs, any kind of frogs, pet frogs, wild frogs, toads, disney cartoons, even AI generated images…. any kind, then hundreds of bots will come after it, to comment with these sarcastic MEMEs accusing China and Russia, praising Ukraine and Taiwan. Many Tiktok account farmers joke about it, call it “gift from mother nature”, cause frog fishing brings free and easy flow. Just rediculous, huh?

All these comments and commenters I mentioned, they don’t say much words, most of them post sarcastic MEMEs, lots and lots of MEMEs, and be sarcastic on everything. If you talk back to them, they seldom response, some response for just once and remain silent forever, if you talk back to them too much, they just delete their comments as well as all the comments in response. And if you see their profile, they don’t share anything about themself, no videos, no descriptions, chat disabled, many with no avatars…In a word, they do follow certain pattern and look like bots to me.

And, Many videos praise Javier Milei, the president of Argentina. For recently he said something like, If printing money would end poverty, printing diplomas would end stupidity…. the comments under one of the Milei videos are like, “The greatest man in the world”, “Pride of human”, “Thanks Milei for the cheap beef I can afford”, “I admire MIlei, ideal politician”, “Salute to the great Milei”, “Great country with great reform pioneer. Lucky Argentina”….FYI, Chinese people are not familiar with Argentina, not at all, except for football and Messi. Chinese media seldom report much about South America. In fact, I’ve never heard any people around me, talking about Argentina, or claim to like Milei, or know what Milei did. I wonder if Milei knows he got popular on Chinese Tiktok recently.

I like Chinese Tiktok (aka Douyin) a lot because of the entertaining and educational videos, it brings a lot of fun and positive emotional value to me. I spend 1–2 hrs everyday on Tiktok after work. Since I spend so much time on Tiktok, beside watching videos, I also like reading the comments under videos, I take it as the next level of playing with Tiktok, I find more fun and inspiration from people’s humorous and wise comments.
